Olde Hobarte Towne

Hi Everyone,Welcome to day 10 of our voyage. This morning the crew awoke to cold and partly-overcast day. Sail Master Guv got us all on deck for a quick game to get the blood flowing and mind awake after a restful night at anchor off Kingston Beach. At 0745 we weighed anchor and transited the short distance around to the Princes Wharf, berthing there at 0900. By 1005 we had everyone onboard and following my short welcome address we cast off our berthing lines and departed the berth, set sail and in light conditions achieved a very successful Community Day Sail with all of our guests enjoying the experience of sailing onboard Young Endeavour and meeting the Crew. We also embarked some local media who interviewed some of the Tasmanian youthies and got some good film footage of sail handling and a brief time we spent in company sailing with the local Tall Ship Windward Passage. By 1300 we had returned to alongside and once we had farewelled our guests the Youth Crew proceeded ashore with their Watch Leaders to conduct end-of-voyage chats and check out the local shops at Salamanca. At 1500 they returned onboard for the final round of Ropies, after which the watches proceeded aloft to put neat furls on all of the square sails.By 1715 everyone was back on deck with the yards looking ‘ship-shape’. We sailed at 1800 and proceeded to anchor in Sandy Bay for the youth crew’s last night onboard. We enjoyed a gourmet pizza dinner prepared by our amazing Chef Marcus whilst soaking up the beautiful Hobart evening shoreline.Later this evening the Youth Crew completed end of voyage questionnaires and letters to themselves which will be returned to them in six months time. To finish the evening’s activities the last two Command Day tasks were completed with a slide show of the voyage, created by Callum, being shown on deck and the recital of a poem written by the Digby. Then everyone settled into their final anchor watches for the voyage.Until tomorrow, yours aye,Captain Mike
