Nara Inlet

Ahoy Shipmates, Overnight we sailed north east until we reached the outer reef then tacked Ship, altered course to the south west and shaped course for Airlie Beach. Sunrise found us back within the Whitsunday Passage and following another entertaining morning brief we conducted rotational tacks. This exercise gives the YC the opportunity to experience other tacking station positions in preparation for for the fast approaching Command Day. At 12:00 we were 1nm to the east of Airlie Beach so everyone mustered at midships to present the Member for Oxley Mr Bernie Ripoll with his YOUNG ENDEAVOUR Certificate of Achievement and to say our final farewells. Following his farewell address Mr Ripoll boarded the Ships RHIB and in true naval tradition, the side was manned, and he was cheered ashore. On recovery of the RHIB the Ship was again brought under sail and we headed straight for Nara Inlet (Hook Island), which was our planned anchorage for the evening. Once safely at anchor the pool was opened and everyone enjoyed a refreshing late afternoon swim which was closely followed by mid voyage talks. This evening we enjoyed another one of Chef Jarrods amazing dinners followed by the legendary tall ship movie Around Cape Horn. Tomorrow morning the YC will be ferried ashore to explore Nara Inlet and view the famous aboriginal rock painters prior to us getting underway again. Yours AyeCaptain Gav
