Half Day Sail
Yesterday afternoon was enjoyed by many at anchor near Tangalooma in Moreton Bay. A magnificent sunset gave way to a cool evening with the hint of rain. All enjoyed the afternoon ashore, despite thedangers of fast four wheel drives on the beach. This morning Wakey Wakey was piped at 0500 and preparations were made to depart our anchorage which we did shortly after 0600. The three hour passage to the Grain Wharf allowed everyone the chance to enjoy their 90 second showers, breakfast and give the Ship a good clean in preparation for our Half Day Sail. With YOUNG ENDEAVOUR looking ‘Ship Shape in Bristol Fashion’ she came alongside at 0900, and embarked guests from Benleigh Special School and Defence Community Organisation for a three hour sailaround Moreton Bay. The light winds didn’t dampen enthusiasm for the day, and the magical Queensland sunshine made for a delightful motor sail near Mud Island. A pod of dolphins found the smiling facesleaning over the side amusing, and they put on a wonderful display of jumping and waving with their fins much to the delight of everyone. The Ship has just returned alongside the Grain Wharf, and our guests have now departed. The smiles on the faces of the young Australians from Benleigh Special School illustrated the success of the day. A very rewarding aspect of YOUNG ENDEAVOUR’s program that gives the opportunity to share the spirit of the Ship to other people who do not have the opportunity to enjoy a longer voyage with us.Now everyone is busy replenishing supplies before we move the Ship upstream to Bulimba Barracks where we will remain overnightbefore moving to Dockside Marina at Kangaroo Point tomorrow!YOUNG ENDEAVOUR FACT FILE:Voyages are open to all young Australians aged between 16 and 23 years of age. Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
