Hi Everyone,

Welcome to day six of our voyage. As has happened during the previous days of this voyage the wind veered to the southeast and strengthened during the morning watch which allowed us to enjoy some more sailing but kept the morning watch extremely busy.

At 0830 I called the ship to tacking stations and in perfect conditions conducted a good set of demonstrational tacks. This activity lets the Youth Crew come to the bridge and I talk them through how we tack/wear the ship then give a practical demonstration. With this activity successfully completed all sail was handed in and we transited the short distance to Great Keppel’s Islands Leekes Beach where we came safely to anchor at 1000.

Leekes Beach is located on the north western side of Great Keppel and is well sheltered from the south easterly trade winds and is a great anchorage. Once at anchor the Youth Crew packed their own lunches then were ferried ashore where they enjoyed some beach sports and a swim before undertaking a walk to the other side of the Island were they found civilisation in the form of the islands general store/takeaway who was most appreciative of the extra business.

By 1500 everyone was safely back onboard and once the Ship’s RHIB had been recovered we weighed anchor and departed Great Keppel Island. This evening the wind has again moderated to less than 6kts which regrettably has meant the use of main engines so that we can continue to make ground to the north and successfully make our next anchorage which is currently planned to be Middle Percy Island.

The time is now 2000 and we are currently located 25nm to the north of Great Keppel Island motor sailing in light 4-8kt NNW winds.

Until tomorrow, take care.

Yours Aye

Captain Gav
