Day Two – Departed Exmouth Gulf
Hi Everyone,
Welcome to Day 2 of our Voyage. It was a windy morning that greeted a well rested Youth Crew this morning. Following an Early Morning Activity (EMA) and quick breakfast we conducted a short morning brief with the intent of going straight into first climbs of the foremast but due to the strength of the wind and an unpleasant swell we decided to defer this activity until early afternoon when the wind was forecast to moderate.
Whilst awaiting for these conditions to improve we conducted a good set of cleaning stations (Happy Hour) then following a short break Lauren our Safety Equipment Specialist conducted a very thorough safety equipment brief.
As forecast the wind moderated to less than 10kts just after midday so Kyle the Sail Master went straight into his harness and safety aloft brief which was followed by first climbs.
Once completed, we weighed anchor and it light conditions commenced our pilotage out of Exmouth Gulf. During this pilotage we conducted some sail setting and furling drills which were continually interrupted by the sighting of numerous whales and the occasional manta ray. By sunset this evening we had rounded North West Cape and in light winds had commenced our passage to Fremantle.
Overnight the Youth crew will settle into their watch routine while we enjoy this light weather sailing with our current plan being to make best speed for Shark Bay hoping that the ‘Weather Gods’ stay on our side and that we don’t experience the forecasted strong SSE headwinds.
Currently we are located 28nm from Exmouth motor sailing in moderate SW winds.
Until tomorrow evening, take care.
Yours Aye
Captain Gav

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
