Day Two – Departed Broome
Hi Everyone,Welcome to Day 2 of our Voyage. It was a warm but windy Cable Beach morning that greeted a well rested Youth Crew at 0630 this morning.Following an Early Morning Activity (EMA) and quick breakfast we commenced first climbs of the foremast before it became to hot. These climbs took just over two hours to complete but during this time we managed to get all of the Youth Crew aloft with all successfully making it to the topgallant yard (highest yard) which was a great achievement.A late Morning brief then lunch followed then just after midday we weighed anchor and departed Cable Beach. Once underway the Youth Crew were introduced to cleaning stations or more commonly known on Young Endeavour as ‘Happy Hour’ which occurs everyday ensuring that the ship is kept spotlessly clean. Once the Sail Master was happy with the cleanliness of the ship everyone returned on deck for sail setting and furling drills and consolidation of our deck safety procedures.By 1600 the wind had freshened from the SSW so once we had put the ship under fore and aft sail the Sail Master called the ship to tacking stations and in perfect conditions we successfully completed our first set of tacks (put the bow of the ship through the wind) as a crew. Once completed, we shaped a course to the south west and in moderate conditions commenced our passage to Exmouth.Overnight the Youth crew will settle into their watch routine while we enjoy some cooler conditions now the sun has gone down.Currently we are located 40nm to the south west of Broome motor sailing in moderate south westerly conditions. The forecast was for the wind to veer to the northwest early this evening but we are still waiting for this to occur.Until tomorrow evening, take care. Yours Aye Captain Gav

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
