Day 9 – Command Day Part 2 and Hello Sydney.

Ahoy shipmates and greetings from Sydney Harbour. Firstly apologies…Ben, Cam and Sarah worked hard to write up tonight’s log…only to have technical issues once again wreak havoc…sorry gang…you are left with me to fill you in on today’s events. After some fantastic sailing post midnight, achieving 8 1/2 knots under sail at one stage, we arrived off Sydney around 0700 and passed through the heads under a full press of square sails…an awesome sight. 40 minutes later we came to anchor in Double Bay and the youth crew set about completing the remainder of their Command Day tasks. At 1000 Captain Ben handed back the ship after a very successful time in Command. It was then time for the youth crew to lay aloft and sea furl the square sails and main, before chef Keely served up another delicious lunch. At 1300 the youth crew were ferried ashore for some dry land time…and snacks, before returning to the ship, completing another round of rope races once back onboard. After dinner the infamous SODs opera (ships operatic department) entertained us all, after which we rolled into anchor watches, and some much needed rest for our young shipmates. Tomorrow we will be conducting our Community Day Sail, and opportunity for the youth crew to play host to some people less fortunate than themselves for a few hours…always a highlight. That’s about it…hopefully the tech gremlins will stay away. Until tomorrow, fair winds, Captain Kenny.
