Hi Everyone, Welcome to day seven of our voyage. By morning brief we were located 14nm to the south east of the Whitsunday Islands still motor sailing in light 8-10kt south westerly winds but enjoying a spectacular morning. Once we had completed a short morning brief we went straight into Captains Setting and Furling Drills. These drills are the final training activity prior to the commencement of Command Day and ensure that all watches can safely set and furl all sails. With this activity successfully completed we altered course to the north and transited through the picturesque Solway Passage coming safely to anchor at the famous Whitehaven Beach at 1130. Lunch followed then early this afternoon we held another set of rope races which was followed by my Command Day Brief. Once finished we had planned to rig the rope swing and let everyone have a swim but given the strong tidal stream that plan was changed and instead we ferried everyone ashore so that they could enjoy a couple of hours of water sports on Whitehaven Beach which they all thoroughly enjoyed. This evening with everyone back onboard the Youth Crew conducted their Command Day elections, which was followed by a Teak Deck BBQ dinner during which we celebrated the birthdays of Liam Georgia and Chantelle with a huge birthday cake that had been specially baked by Chef Jenko. To finish the evening’s activities we are now screening the classic Tall Ship movie ‘Around Cape Horn’ on the upper deck screen and once completed everyone will settle into anchor watches for the night ensuring that they are well rested for what will be a challenging Command Day. Until tomorrow, take care. Yours Aye Captain Gav
