Day 4 – King Island

Hi Everyone,
Welcome to Day 4 of our voyage. During the early hours of this morning we rounded Cape Wickham (most northern point of King Island) and proceeded down the East Coast of King Island where we came safely to anchor in Sea Elephant Bay at 0930.

Once at anchor the Youth Crew were ferried ashore where they were met by a bus and Jim the resident Tour Guide who had been pre-booked for a tour of the Island. During the 3hrs that followed the Youth Crew got to visit the famous King Island Cheese Factory, learn about the history of King Island and visit the Islands main town of Currie.

This afternoon we gave everyone a couple of hours down time to do some washing, play some deck games or just catch up on some much needed sleep then to finish the afternoon I gave my presentation on sail theory and the intricacies of sailing Young Endeavour.

This evening in pleasant conditions we enjoyed a BBQ dinner up on deck which was followed by an entertaining round of ‘Three Way Chats’ (public speaking and getting to know each other exercise).

To finish of the evenings activities Gemma the navigator gave a brief on how to keep the ship safe when at anchor and now the Youth Crew have settled into anchor watches overnight ensuring that they will be well rested for the busy day’s ahead.

Tomorrow morning we will depart our anchorage at King Island and take advantage of the forecasted southerly change and sail east through Bass Strait to the picturesque Deal Island where we plan to anchor early Saturday afternoon.

Until tomorrow, take care.

Yours Aye

Captain Gav
