Day 4 – Capricorn Coast
Ahoy there everyone, Overnight the ship continued sailing under all square sails making good seven knots with 25 knot SE winds and a two metre swell. At sunrise the ship was abeam Heron Island and crossing the Tropic of Capricorn shaping a course for the uninhabited North West Island, the second largest island in the Great Barrier Reef. The ship anchored in the lee of this beautiful island but unfortunately the ships boat could not enter the islands fringing reef due to an obstructed boat channel. Therefore the ship weighed anchor and sailed to our alternate anchorage at Great Keppel Island. During the transit Watch Officer Kristy presented a lesson on Rules of the Road which is an important component in remain navigationally safe when operating in the maritime environment. Navigator Matt dusted of the sextant and provided some budding navigators a lesson on this acclaimed instrument. While Sail Master Tug provided instruction on the Main Sail and Jib, then before we knew it, we were under a full press of sail reaching speeds of 10.5 knots. By late afternoon we had anchored in the lee of Great Keppel Island just as the rain started to intensify. A BBQ dinner was consumed below decks before a three way talk activity was conducted; this enabled each Youth Crew member to gather a significant amount of in depth information about two of their appointed shipmates during the afternoon; this information was then presented to the remainder of the crew in the third person developing confidence, interpersonal skills and public speaking. With the Youth Crew settled into anchor watches, the intention is to remain at anchor overnight before departing tomorrow forenoon and shaping a course north continuing our adventure that is Young Endeavour. Until tomorrow evening.Yours ayeCaptain Damien

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
