Hi Everyone, Welcome to day 11 of our voyage. This morning was fine but with a cool Tasmanian ‘nip’ in the air. Following an Early Morning Activity at 0630 and a short morning brief the anchor was weighed and we transited the short distance to Sullivans Cove where we berthed starboard side to Elizabeth Street Pier at 0900. Once alongside we embarked some stores then welcomed 23 guests from Star/Cosmos Tasmania and sponsors from Tasmania’s Rural Youth onboard for our Community Day Sail. Following a safety brief the lines were cast off at 1005 and the ship departed its berth and proceeded out into the Derwent River where in pleasant conditions the ship was brought under sail. During the 3hrs that followed all of our guests enjoyed a most memorable sail around this spectacular river. Throughout the day the Youth Crew acted as perfect hosts, serving food, refreshments and entertaining our guests. By 1230 it was time to hand in all sail and begin our passage back to our berth, arriving safely alongside at 1300. Once we had farewelled our guests the Youth Crew competed in their final round of rope races then proceeded aloft to put harbour furls on the squares. Once completed they Crew went ashore with their Watch Leaders to local cafes where they completed their end of voyage talks. By 1615 everyone had returned onboard so lines were cast off and we again departed our berth and conducted a short passage to our planned anchorage back in Sandy Bay. Tonight we enjoyed a wonderful pizza dinner then on dusk we commenced a photo slide show up on deck capturing various moments and experiences during the voyage which gives everyone the opportunity to reflect on the past 12 days of the voyage. The rest of this evening will be spent completing end of voyage questionnaires and “letters to themselves”, which are returned to each Youth Crew member six months after voyage completion. Whilst the Youth Crew are completing these final administration tasks the Staff Crew will conduct their own end of voyage debrief. Tomorrow morning I am sure that everyone will be up early to climb the foremast and witness a final sunrise from the yards of Young Endeavour. Following breakfast and morning brief we will weigh anchor then transit the short distance to Elizabeth Pier where with yards manned we will berth for the final time for this voyage at 1000. Once alongside we will invite guests onboard for a tour of the ship then I will conduct my final address and present Certificates of Achievement to the Youth Crew of Voyage 03-16. Once completed, we will say our final sad farewells as this crew departs Young Endeavour. At the end of another great voyage I would like to thank all of the Youth Crew of Voyage 03-16 for the efforts that you put in throughout our passage from Adelaide to Hobart and for making this such an enjoyable voyage for all of the Staff Crew. We loved having you onboard and wish you all the best for the future. The ship will remain alongside in Hobart until Monday 22nd February when we will embark the Youth Crew of Voyage 04-16 and sail for Melbourne. Until next voyage, take care. Yours Aye Captain Gav
