Hi Everyone, Welcome to day 10 and the final night of our voyage. The Youth Crew were awake on deck at 0630 this morning due to the requirement to get underway early. At 0710 we weighed anchor, departed our picturesque anchorage at South Mole Island then transited the 10nm over to Airlie Beaches Abel Point where we berthed port side to No 9 berth at 0900. Once safely alongside we off loaded 10 days of garbage and made preparations to embark our guests for our Half Day Sail. At 0950 we welcomed onboard members of Mackay’s Lifestyle Choices who had travelled all the way from Mackay to sail with us today, a number of local sponsors and some Staff Crew Guests. At 1015 we cast off lines and conducted the short pilotage out of the marina and into Pioneer Bay where engines were shut down and the ship brought under sail. During the three hours that followed the Youth Crew did a great job of sailing the ship and keeping our guests entertained in near perfect conditions. Sadly the 3hrs passed to quickly and before we new it we had to head back to the marina where we berthed at 1305. Once alongside, we farewelled our guests then the Youth Crew proceeded ashore with their Watch Leaders to conduct end of voyage talks. Once back onboard they competed in their final set of rope races then proceeded aloft to put harbour furls on the squares. At 1640 we again departed our berth and proceeded out to our planned anchorage at Daydream Island. During this passage we enjoyed a pizza dinner served up on deck whilst we watched another spectacular sunset in the Whitsunday’s. Early this evening we held the end of voyage slide show which gives everyone the opportunity to reflect back on the past 10 days of the voyage. This was followed by an entertaining song written and performed by the Youth Crew about their experiences throughout the voyage. The rest of this evening has been spent with the Youth Crew completing end of voyage questionnaires and “letters to themselves”, which are returned to each Youth Crew member six months after voyage completion. Whilst the Youth Crew were completing these final administration tasks the Staff Crew took the opportunity to conduct our own ‘end of voyage’ debriefs. Tomorrow morning we will start our final day with an early morning activity which at this time is a surprise for the Youth Crew. Following breakfast and morning brief the anchor will be weighed and we will then transit the 8nm back to the Airlie Beach where just prior to entering Abel Point Marina the Youth Crew will man the yards and we will make our ground entry berthing for the final time for this voyage at Berth No 9 at 1000. Once alongside family and friends will be invited onboard for a tour of the ship and to witness my final address and the presentation of Certificates of Achievement to all of the Youth Crew. Following this presentation we will say our final emotional farewell to the Youth Crew of Voyage 10/16 as they depart the ship. On a personal note, I would like to thank all of the Youth Crew of Voyage 10/16 for the effort that you have put in throughout this voyage and wish you all the very best for the future. Young Endeavour will now have a short break in Airlie Beach before embarking our next Youth Crew on Tuesday 12th July and sailing from Airlie Beach to Cairns which will be the fifth voyage of our 2016 Circumnavigation of Australia. Until Next Voyage, take care. Yours Aye Captain Gav
