Ahoy Shipmates...well the end of Voyage 17/18 is upon us (sad face). We left Tangalooma early this morning (very early) for the 4 hour transit across Moreton Bay, berthing at HMAS Moreton at 0900 to pick up our half day guests. The half day sail is an opportunity for those not able to participate in the 11 day program to get to sail on Young Endeavour. Today our group was from Centacare and the Youth Crew did a fine job of playing host, regaling our guests with their adventures of the last 10 days. We took a leisurely cruise up the Brisbane River to the Story Bridge and return. Not much wind but it was a beautiful sunny day...that always helps. After returning to HMAS Moreton and farewelling our guests, the Youth Crew went ashore with their watch leaders for end of voyage talks, discussing lessons learnt from their experience on Young Endeavour...and coffee of course. Once back on board we held the final round of rope races (Final result 1. White 2. Red 3. Blue), then it was time for the Youth Crew to proceed aloft for the penultimate time to harbour furl the square sails. On completion it was time for the traditional final night dinner...pizza! With full bellies the Youth Crew then completed some end of voyage admin (QC, letters to themselves, voyage pages) before the final Command Day task...the slide show and poem, reflecting upon their time on Young Endeavour. We then celebrated on of our Youth Crew's birthday with cake....Happy Birthday Molly, before all where encouraged to get a good night sleep in preparation for the final day tomorrow (like that's gunna happen!) As always it will be sad to say goodbye, however the staff and I have every confidence they will go onto bigger and better things...and hopefully their time on Young Endeavour has helped in some small way...good luck and goodbye. I'll leave you with a poem from the Youth Crew....Captain Kenny...out! A poem by Meg..."The Love Affair of the Young Endeavour". When I first loved the Young Endeavour, she looked like the bottom of the sick bag. She attempted to rock me to sleep, but her cycles and rhythms juxtaposed our own. I hated the peaks and troughs she created, and did not want her to hold me. However, the more she rocked me calmly throughout every day, the more I fell in love in the simplest of ways. I love how she makes me smile as she plays with the dolphins on her bow for a while. I love how she lets me clean her everyday at Happy Hour. I love how she is playful and cheeky as she throws me from my shower. I love how she brings me closer to people with her charming power. I love how she is now more of a home and less of a foreboding tower. Young Endeavour, it has taken many long days and nights caring for you to make me understand your beauty shining through. Now I see your fine lines fore and aft and and every time my eyes are drawn aft, all I can fathom is 'boom'!...Love you forever and always...Youthies V17/18
