Currently at anchor at South mole Island and enjoying light SE winds with nil swell and the temperature is a very pleasant 19 degrees.
Welcome to Young Endeavours fifth voyage of our 2016 Circumnavigation of Australia. This voyage will see us sail from Airlie Beach to Cairns, which is an extremely scenic stretch of the Australian Coastline to sail.
The Young Endeavour Staff Crew for this voyage are as follows:
Captain – Gav
Sail Master – Kyle
Navigator – Adam
BOATSO – Jordo
Red Watch Leader – Lauren
White Watch Leader – Taffy (Assisted by Kimberly)
Blue Watch Leader – James
Chef – Keely
Engineer - Danny
The voyage commenced at 1500 this afternoon when the new Youth Crew joined Young Endeavour berthed alongside at Airlie Beaches Abell Point Marina Super Yacht Berth. Once onboard and all gear stowed, everyone mustered on deck for my welcome address and Staff Crew introductions. On completion we farewelled family and friends then made preparations to get underway. At 1545 we cast off lines, transited through the marina’s narrow ‘S bend’ breakwater and out into Pioneer Bay where we shaped a course for the Whitsunday Passage and South Molle Island which was our planned anchorage for the evening.
During this 12nm passage the Watch Leaders conducted ‘ice breaker’ activities and ship’s tours which were completed just as we came to anchor at South Molle Island at 1730. Dinner followed with Chef Keely amazing all of us with her culinary skills (no chance of losing any weight this voyage). Once we had cleaned up from dinner the Youth Crew were mustered at midships where Kyle and I held Captain and Sail Master chats before handing them back to their Watch Leaders for deck safety and full value contracts. Given the current weather forecast it is our intention to remain at anchor here at South Molle Island overnight then complete first climbs of the foremast tomorrow morning before weighing anchor and doing some sailing through the beautiful Whitsunday Passage.
Until tomorrow evening, take care.
Yours Aye Captain Gav
