Ahoy shipmates and welcome to Voyage 10/19, Airlie Beach to Gladstone. Lucky us...a bit more time in the Whitsundays before we head south...tough! At 1500 this afternoon we embarked 27 young adventurers alongside Abell Point Marina, Airlie Beach, with a small group of family and friends in tow. Everyone was on time so after quick tours of the ship we conducted the welcome ceremony and introduction of the Staff Crew. They are as follows: Captain - Kenny, Sailmaster - Jerome, Navigator - Darren, Boats Officer - Jordo, White watch leader - Morgan, Red watch leader - Blake, Blue watch leader - Reggie, Engineer - Sumo and Chef - Marcus. We also have a staff member from the Young Endeavour Youth Scheme joining us for the trip...welcome Nat. After our guests had departed we had to wait until 1615 to depart due to tides. Once clear of the marina we made our way over to Pioneer Bay, a quick 20 minute trip, and proceeded to anchor in the lee of Pioneer Point. We will remain here overnight as the Youth Crew face their first challenge...laying aloft (climbing) on the foremast. As I write we have just enjoyed a delicious dinner courtesy of Chef Marcus and will shortly commence the Sailmaster's brief (bad cop) which outlines some rules and guidelines for the voyage, after which I will give the Captain's brief (good cop), outlining the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. We will then roll into the safety aloft and harness brief, before the first watch ascends to the heavens...well 33 metres at least! The aim is to have at least two watches climb tonight, with the third climbing in the morning. This will enable us to get everyone to bed at a reasonable hour for some much needed sleep. Day 2 is always a big day. That's about for now...after a few days off due to a minor injury it's good to be back at the helm...many thanks to Dion for standing in! Until tomorrow, fair winds, Captain Kenny.
Every accomplishment begins with the decision to try! JFK
