COMMAND DAY

Hi Everyone,Welcome to Command Day. This morning of was unseasonably cold with a few passing showers. Following cleaning stations the Youth Crew were given one hour of question time with Staff prior to taking command of the ship. At 1000 all of the Youth Crew and Staff were mustered at midships and I officially handed the ‘Telescope of Challenge’ and the responsibility of the ship to Youth Crew Captain (Tam). What followed, was a very good planning phase which saw the Youth Crew Command Team methodically plan how they would achieve all of the tasks they had been given. After completing a number of these tasks the order was finally given at 1530 to weigh anchor and depart Brammo Bay. Due to a strong tidal stream and the close proximity to navigational dangers I granted the use of main engines until we were clear of the bay. Once in open water the engines were shut down and the Youth Crew quickly brought the ship under sail and shaped a course to the north east. As the evening progress the wind freshened to 20kts and the Youth Crew continued to sail the ship well, averaging speeds of 6kts. By 2130 we were located 10nm to the east of Innisfail and only 40nm south of Fitzroy Island, which is planned our anchorage for tomorrow and the Youth Crews final waypoint for Command Day.One of the many tasks for Command Day is for the Youth Crew to write the Captains Log for tonight and tomorrow. This task has not been achieved as yet but I am sure that it will be finished sometime throughout the night so you will have to wait until tomorrow to read this much anticipated entry.Until tomorrow, take care.Yours AyeCaptain Gav
