Captain's Log
V11/18 Newcastle to Brisbane
7 April 2018

Captain Mike, signing off

Ahoy there Shipmates, Sail Master Evan woke the crew at 0630 on a warm, sunny Brisbane morning alongside HMAS Moreton at Bulimba. The EMA was a final quick game on deck before everyone disappeared below for showers and breakfast. After the final Morning Brief and Happy Hour for the Voyage, Young Endeavour departed the wharf at 0915 and the Youth Crew laid aloft in the old Naval tradition of ‘Manning the Yards’ for the formal arrival. We berthed back at HMAS Moreton at 1000 in front of family and friends. Once the youthies were down from aloft we held a brief ceremony, during which I gave a voyage completion certificate to each Youth Crew Member. We had a number of special guests onboard for the ceremony and I asked the Commanding Officer, CMDR Mark McConnell, to present the Order of Australia Branch of NSW sponsored ‘Young Endeavour Award’ to Daniel Tonegato. I then handed command of STS Young Endeavour to LCDR Andrew Callander and was formally rowed ashore by my shipmates. The Staff Crew then said their final farewells to the Youth Crew of Voyage 11/18. It has been a magnificent journey and one not to be forgotten. The ship will remain in Brisbane until Sat 04 Jul when it will embark a new Youth Crew for Voyage 12/18, Brisbane to Mackay. Yours Aye Captain Mike
