CAITLINS BIRTHDAY

Hi Everyone,Welcome to day 51 of our voyage. Well it was another leisurely start to the day with the Sail Master deciding to run a Saturday Sea routine on a Sunday which still gave everyone the chance to have a sleep in and the morning off before the start of another busy week. This afternoon it was back to some normality with cleaning stations followed by some light activities. Once completed I got everyone together and gave them a brief on our World Voyagers Command Period which will run over a 48hr period and will commence at 1300 tomorrow. With this briefing completed we all mustered at midships to celebrate Cailtlin’s 24th Birthday with a Mad Hatter’s tea party complete with scones, jam and cream and an amazing Pavlova birthday cake made by our fantastic Chefs Marcos & Keely.Once completed the wind had again veered back to the south east which meant clewing up the squares and returning back to being close hauled under fore and aft sail again.Late this afternoon the World Voyagers conducted their Command Period election’s, which was followed by this evening’s pizza dinner. The time is now 2000 and we are currently located 1070nm NE of Rio still sailing under fore and aft sail and enjoying the cooler trade winds that are assisting us down the Brazilian Coast.Volunteering to write tonight’s Log is Kate and Gilly, please enjoy! Until tomorrow, take care.Yours AyeCaptain Gav Shout Out:From all of us onboard Young Endeavour ‘Happy Birthday’ Caitlin we hope that you have had a wonderful day! Captains Log! Brought to you by Kate and Gilly! It was with a confused stumble out of bed this morning that we checked our watches realizing something was amiss. 7:30!? Did we sleep through wakey wakey? No… It’s Saturday Sea routine for some very grateful world Voyagers! After a lovely continental breakky (the chefos deserved a sleep in as well afterall!) It was our turn for a split watch of 2 hours. A slow start to the watch had us sunning ourselves in between our rounds until we realised that the winds were a’changin’! With the soundtrack of ‘The Pirates of the Caribbean’ blaring in the background and a nod from our officer on watch (Evan) we proceeded with buddy checks and headed up the foremast to cast loose gaskets on the Topsail! It had been quite a while since the sail plan had changed so we were eager to set the squares. When we returned to the deck we were told the Fisherman Staysail would also be needed – We get to climb again! We then proceeded to set both sails which made the slightest of differences in our speed (and therefore SOA) and gave us some good old fashioned sailing to do!Apart from keeping watches (split between half of each watch over two hour periods) most of the crew has spent their time sleeping, reading, watching movies and regaining their strength… Until the festivities started!!! For today is the 24th birthday of our shipmate Caitlin! After some quick games of human battleships and squish the pear with your face (not actually what the game was but what seemed to happen regardless) we all donned our homemade ‘Mad Hatter’ hats (The Lord Assassins crown in Gillys case) and enjoyed some beautiful scones with jam and cream followed by an amazing Pavlova cake. All of which was in honour of our friends birthday!Once the festivities were completed we got into the nitty gritty process of preparing for our command period. It didn’t take long to come up with a nice simple democratic voting system which helped us elect a strong team of leaders that will see us through the coming test. We’re all very excited to push ourselves and see what we’re capable of during the stressful time. While we write this the rest of our watch is currently up the mast gasketing all that was cast loose earlier today… But hey, that’s sailing!!!Until next time,Kate and Gilly. SHOUTOUTS!!!!!(It’s all Caps because we’re shouting…)Caitlin: Hey all, sorry I didn’t call, may have slipped my mind during our record setting attempt to set the Main Gaff today – not the good kind of record either 😮 Mum, Dad, Nanna, Karla & Will: Hope you all had a great day thinking of me of course, and can’t wait to get home and open all my pressies – Dad if there’s chocolate you have permission to eat it and replace it for when I get home next year! Missing you all like KUH-RAH-ZEE, but am surrounded by some of the most amazing people atm! Courts – if you’re reading this, hope you had a glass (or bottle) of wine for me!! Missing you today especially! All my love to Dex and Oscar  Not long left now, will call from Rio!! Love to all!! xxxxxxx (Also a HUGE thankyou to Keely and Marcos for my amazing pavlova cake and pizza dinner today!!!)
