BRISBANE

Ahoy there everyone, Welcome to Young Endeavour’s fifth voyage for 2012, our journey commenced today in Brisbane and concludes in Gladstone. To facilitate our adventure under sail, it is an honour to introduce the nine Staff Crew that will guide and shape our voyage during the next 11 days:Captain DamienSail Master JordoNavigator RickWatch Officer MikeRed Watch Leaders DougieWhite Watch Leader CarlyBlue Watch Leader BobChef SquizEngineer MickThe voyage officially commenced at 1500 when 23 Youth Crew from across Australia embarked in Young Endeavour berthed at the Portside Cruise Wharf, Brisbane River. Once all baggage had been stowed below, all hands were mustered on deck for a welcome address and staff introductions before friends and family were farewelled. After settling in and attending a safety brief, the Youth Crew conducted a ship familiarisation followed by a number of introduction activities to integrate the members of each watch.Once completed the first of many very tasty meals crafted by master chef Squiz was eagerly consumed. After dinner, voyage expectations, requirements and safety aspects for the next 11 days onboard were discussed. Then without further ado, some nerves, a great deal of courage and a lot of determination every single member of our new crew proceeded aloft onto the foremast for their first night climb. The surrounding view the Brisbane River from aloft was both inspiring and invigorating.I am very pleased to report that all of the Youth Crew performed extremely well on their first day and I am from the outset impressed with both their individual efforts and team attitude. After having a celebratory hot chocolate followed by a 90 second shower, each has now turned in for a well deserved first night sleep in Young Endeavour.Tomorrow morning we will awake at 0630, conduct our last safety activities before casting off all lines and commence sail training for the day in Moreton Bay. On completion the ship will enter the Coral Sea and commence shaping a course north for the Hervey BayUntil tomorrow evening, take care.Yours AyeCaptain Damien
