Beautiful Whitehaven Beach

Good evening Shipmates, The light winds continued overnight and at daybreak the crew were fortunate to see the beauty of the Whitsunday Islands at close hand. It was a classic perfect Queensland day and whilst we all marvelled at the awesome scenery that the Whitsunday Passage offers, to sail a tall ship we were lacking an essential ingredient – wind. Oh well, spending a day frolicking on the beautiful white sands of Whitehaven Beach wasn’t a bad second option and that’s exactly what we did. The ship motored through the Solway Passage and anchored off Whitehaven Beach at 1030. Happy hour was quickly attended to prior to lunch and then it was all Youth Crew ashore. Once ashore, the stinger suits were donned prior to entering the beautiful clear turquoise waters that make this region famous. The YC were all back onboard by 1600 for a round of rope races and shortly thereafter yours truly swapped his Captains attire for a chef’s apron and cooked up a feast at the Teak Deck BBQ. I\’ll freely admit that Squiz did all the hard preparation work. Later in the evening we all got together for an entertaining ‘Three Way Talks’ which was a lot of fun prior to the YC taking the responsibility of looking after the ship by keeping anchor watches overnight. Hopefully tomorrow will bring sufficient breeze to fill our sails. Captain Gunna Carpe’ diem
