BASS STRAIT
Ahoy Shipmates,This morning found us 30nm to the east of Flinders Island making good ground to the northeast. The wind backed to the southwest overnight but due to the light conditions we continued to motorsail into Bass Strait. This morning saw the YC complete another good set of cleaning stations (happy hour), followed by another hotly contested set of rope races and a “Rule of the Road” lecture, given by our resident Officer of the Watch and Boats Officer Trish. After another fantastic lunch provided by Chad and his assistants (YC), I had the task of imparting some theoretical knowledge of sailing a tall ship to the YC. This was followed by a set of well conducted rotational tacks. This evolution gives the YC the opportunity to experience and gain an appreciation for each others position and gives them a better understanding of ship management in preparation for the rapidly approaching Command Day.We are now northeast of Flinders Island making good speed across Bass Strait in perfect conditions (very unusual for Bass Strait). If we can maintain our current course and speed we should anchor just of the township of Eden by late tomorrow morning allowing everyone a chance to get ashore for a well deserved leg stretch.Yours AyeCaptain Gav

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
