PAST 24 HOURS

ANCHOR WATCHES WERE CONDUCTED OVER NIGHT AND GAVE AN OPPORTUNITY FOR SOME MUCH NEEDED REST LEADING INTO WHAT WOULD BE A VERY BUSY AND CHALLENGING 24 HOURS. AFTER AN EARLY MORNING ACTIVITY AND ANOTHER DELIGHTFUL BREAKFAST THE YOUTH CREW RECEIVED THEIR FINAL MORNING BREIF BEFORE THEY TOOK CONTROL. COMMAND DAY WAS UPON US. WITH ONLY ONE FINAL ACTIVITY PRIOR TO THE HAND OVER THE YOUTH CREW WERE AGAIN TESTING THEIR COMMUNICTION SKILLS AND TOLERANCE.

WITH WINDS FROM THE SOUTH/ SOUTH EAST AT AROUND 8 KTS AND WITH OVER 75 NM TO TRAVEL, THE YOUTH CREW OF VOYAGE 09/05 TOOK CONTROL OF THEIR SHIP YOUNG ENDEAVOUR AT 1300.

COMMENTS FROM THE YOUTH CREW XO, ANDREW ON COMMAND DAY:

WE STARTED OFF THE DAY A LITTLE APPREHENSIVE ABOUT OUR NEXT 24 HOURS, AND IT SOON BECAME APPARENT TO US THAT THIS WAS GOING TO BE ALOT MORE WORK THAN WE HAD ANTICIPATED. AFTER THE HANDOVER OF THE SHIP WITH THE STAFF DRESSING UP IN THEIR FAVOURITE OUTFITS, WE SOON GOT UNDER WAY TO A ROUGH AN ROCKY START. IT TOOK US A WHILE BEFORE WE STARTED TO MAKE MUCH PROGRESS OUT OF THE BAY, AFTER A FEW CIRCLES AND NUMEROUS SAIL CHANGES WE GOT UNDER WAY LEAVING UPSTART BAY ON A GLAMOROUS 3 KTS. WITHIN A FEW HOURS OF SAILING ALONG OUR COURSE, CHOSEN BY OUR ELECTED NAVIGATORS, WE STARTED TO PICK UP CONSIDERABLE SPEED REACHING 6 KTS BEFORE OUR FIRST WEAR OF THE SHIP, WHICH INVOLVED WAKING UP THE ENTIRE CREW AT 10PM AND TURNING THE SHIP INTO THE WIND MANOEUVRING ALL OUR SAILS TO THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE SHIP SO WE COULD CONTINUE ON OUR NEXT SET COURSE. UP UNTIL NOW WE HAVE BEEN SAILING SMOOTHLY
WITH OUR FIRST WEAR OF THE SHIP GOING VERY WELL AND I HAVE HAVE GREAT HOPES THAT WE CONTINUE WITH OUR SAME SPIRIT AND DETERMINATION AND THAT WE MAKE IT TO OUR FINAL WAY-POINT BY 11AM TOMMORROW. GO TEAM.

COMMENTS FROM YOUTH CREW

FROM PENNY:
WOW (EXCLAMATION) YOUNG ENDEAVOUR HAS BEEN THE ULTIMATE ADVENTURE. TODAY WE COMMENCED COMMAND DAY, WHERE THE YOUTH CREW TAKES OVER THE SHIP FOR 24HOURS. FOLLOWING THE GUIDE LINES AND PROCEDURES THAT WE HAVE LEARNT FROM THE STAFF, WE WILL MAKE OUR WAY UP TO MAGNETIC ISLAND. OUR TRIP STARTED SLOW WITH A FEW MISHAPS, BUT THEN WE WERE FINALLY UNDERWAY. THE WIND WASNT STRONG BUT THEN PICKED UP AND WAS THE BEST WE HAVE SEEN SO FAR ON OUR VOYAGE. ME AND TWO OTHERS THAT WERE NOMINATED TO BE THE CHEF'S FOR THE 24HOURS COOKED UP A STORM FOR DINNER TONIGHT WHICH WAS ENJOYED BY ALL. OVER THE LAST 7 DAYS WE HAVE FORMED A GREAT TEAM, AND OUR TEAMWORK AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS HAVE
DEVELOPED IMMENSELY. HOPEFULLY WE WILL BE TRIUMPHANT IN COMPLETEING THE TASKS WE WERE ASSIGNED, AND REACH MAGNETIC ISLAND BY LUNCH TIME TOMORROW. BIG HELLO TO EVERYONE IN BUNDABERG

FROM KRISTINE:
I'M HAVING A FANTASTIC TIME HERE ON YOUNG ENDEAVOUR.IT HAS BEEN
NOTHING LESS THAN EXHILERATING.THE STAFF ARE AWESOME, VERY AMUSING AND TO EVERYONES ENJOYMENT WE HAVE FOUND THEY LOVE GETTING DRESSED UP. BECK THE COOK IS FANTASTIC AND THERE WILL BE A FAIR FEW PEOPLE GOING HOME WITH SLIGHTLY LARGER TUMMIES. WE HAVE BEEN TO SOME WONDERFUL PLACES LIKE SCAWFELL ISLAND AND WHITE HAVEN BEACH AND HAVE MADE SOME WONDERFUL FRIENDS AND ENJOYING EVERY MINUTE. TODAY BY FAR WOULD HAVE TO BE THE MOST CHALLENGING OF ALL. AFTER TAKING COMMAND OF THE SHIP, WE WERE OFF TO A SLOW START TO BEGIN WITH, BUT WITH TIME AND A FEW DIFFERENT STRATEGIES, WE WERE SOON SAILING OUR WAY THROUGH
THE SEA AT A FANTASTIC SPEED. A HUGE HELLO TO BERNIE,JOHNNO, BRIAN, NEALOS, TOMMMI, GRAHAM, FRED AND KAREN MISS YOU ALL HEAPS.

NAUTICAL TERM OF THE DAY

WEAR: TO TURN THE STERN OF A SQUARE RIG SAILING SHIP THROUGH THE
