It's either raining, just rained, or just about to rain. The wind is from the SSE at 10-15 knots, and the sea is calm.
Ahoy Me Hearties,
We've just dropped anchor in West Bay, Middle Percy Island just offshore from the "yacht club", which is an A-Frame leanto built by a previous owner of the island for the amenity of passing yachties - like us!
Last night we had a really busy time with frequent sail changes and wet, squally weather. Many of the Youth Crew were seasick, but all are in good spirits.
This morning we had a session of setting and clewing up the square sails, prior to happy hour, and getting to anchor just before Speedy's sumptuous lunch - really enjoyable.
As I write the cheers are coming from 'midships, where Round Two of Rope Races is going on in earnest. White and Red watches are tied for the lead. This afternoon we will head ashore to the "yacht club" for some sport, a BBQ, and three way talks. Even though the weather is wet and miserable, spirits are high, and everyone is having a great time.
We wil sail tomorrow morning after a quiet night at anchor, with the intention of making for Lady Musgrave Is, a reef cay at the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef (weather permitting).
Until tomorrow, Shipmates,
Lieutenant Commander, RAN
